Vibrant Family-Focused Renewal: Bold, Functional Design for Elevated Suburban Living
Bold design details meet modern comforts in this highly functional, architecturally forward suburban home for an active family of five.
Returning to work with a client more than a decade after our first project together is always exciting. As one of our earliest Reider + Co clients, this urban family of five needed help designing their newly purchased home in the suburbs of Boston.
Our team collaborated with Grassi Design Group and Connaughton Construction to transform the home to meet the demands of everyday life while elevating its aesthetic. This modern home renovation was designed to bring cohesion, durability, and contemporary style to a busy family household. The goal was to create a space that reflected their love of bold color and layered details while prioritizing functionality and storage to meet the needs of this new chapter.

A Refined Living Space Rooted in Detail
The dining and living spaces balance bold interior design with everyday functionality. A large dining area is anchored by a custom glass sculptural light fixture, with inviting lounging spaces on either side, one designed for enjoying an evening cocktail, the other for gathering around the fire with a book. Jewel tones, vibrant patterns, and metallic accents are layered with clean-lined contemporary furnishings, creating a modern luxury living space that feels elevated yet approachable.
A Game Room Designed for Gathering
The game room was conceived as a natural extension of the home’s overall design, refined, intentional, and built for real life. Tailored millwork, custom window treatments, and bright, floral wallcoverings create a sense of depth, while comfortable furnishings make the space feel relaxed rather than formal. A multifunctional room designed to support entertaining as easily as everyday family moments.
Bold Powder Rooms with Distinct Personalities
The two powder rooms were each designed to offer a distinct experience based on location. One embraces a moodier, sophisticated palette, where deeper tones and modern finishes create an intimate, dramatic moment that complements the more formal spaces outside its door. The other, positioned next to the more casual mudroom and laundry room, leans into a brighter, more whimsical vibe with vibrant window treatments, a colorful vanity, and expressive wallpaper, bringing energy and light to the space. Though contrasting in tone, both rooms reflect a cohesive interior design vision.
A Primary Suite Rooted in Color and Calm
And finally, the primary suite was designed as a restorative retreat within the home, a space where sophisticated design softens into quiet refinement. In the primary bath, a Calacatta Viola marble vanity in a deep burgundy hue introduces subtle drama without disrupting the room’s calm. The result is a modern interior that feels both elevated and deeply personal.
