Multigenerational Beach House

Multigenerational Beach House

coastal rhode island

This 12,000-square-foot waterfront residence is a newly constructed vacation home for extended family and friends to spend leisure time together. In conjunction with DiMauro Architects, our team at Reider + Co developed the home’s interior architecture and detailing.

Our design-savvy clients wanted to be surprised by interior design elements they hadn’t seen before, so we used innovative materials in unexpected ways. For example, the elevator wall is covered in a carved wood pattern, concealing the elevator and basement doors and serving as a sculptural focal point in the space.

Working with several Rhode Island artisans, we chose materials and finishes throughout the home to enhance the sense of place: beautiful marbles, crackled glass tile, honed travertine, cerused wood, and hand-blown glass light fixtures.

Working with the homeowners, we assessed how the family wanted to function and have fun in every room and on every part of the property. Our space planning includes several experiential spaces, such as a surf shop, pool table/hangout lounge, basement speakeasy, and a bunkhouse. And when the family is not hanging out on the beach, they’ll be able to enjoy the property’s screened porch, infinity pool, outdoor kitchen, and a fire pit with seating.
