From Concept-to-Completion: Learn the process from the pros

Have you ever wondered what the interior design process looks like from start-to-finish? Well, there’s a method that we’ve fine-tuned during our 15 years in business and we’ll share it with you here.

After meeting with our clients to determine the project scope and creative vision for their home, we start developing schemes for all of the pretty textiles and furniture pieces. Room-by-room we layer carpets, wallpaper and paint samples, light drapery fabrics, more heavy-weight upholstery fabrics, and the like...all the while keeping the family’s personal preferences and budget in mind.

In the suburban living room project pictured, we also updated the fireplace surround with crackled aqua glass tile to replace a yellow-hued marble that was a bit too traditional for the owner’s tastes.

When a project requires construction, we work in tandem with architects and builders to provide all the necessary drawings and documentation. The saying is true, pictures are worth a thousand words, and we use AutoCAD to specify every construction detail.

It takes time to fit all of the pieces together for every room, and the final product is much more successful with thorough planning upfront. It’s the secret to a cohesive home in the end, and we simply wouldn’t have it any other way!

When every piece of the puzzle is reviewed and approved by the client, we proceed quickly to estimating and ordering. This middle part of the process is taking longer than usual lately due to the pandemic, but we have our fingers crossed that supply-chain issues will be resolved very soon.
Tile goes in with painstaking detail, wallpaper is professionally hung, carpets are stain-treated and trimmed to size, and finally installation day arrives with white glove delivery of the furniture. We recommend warehousing each furniture piece to streamline the process, and our clients agree that this makes life much easier on their end.

Last, we add the final layer of art with the help of our consultant, Julie Mussafer, from Jules Place in Boston and bring all of the pretty accessories that make the room sing. (Or in this particular case, the room’s color scheme was designed around our client’s existing abstract art).

It all seems so easy doesn’t it? We aim to make it so, and put our clients first every step of the way, including how they prefer to work with us. Some clients like to be creatively involved and take a trip to the Boston Design Center with us. Others aren’t quite as hands-on, and our process easily adapts.
