Holiday Style Straight From Our Homes to Yours
Holiday time is finally here and a brand new year is right around the corner. Although our traditions might look a little different for 2020, we still look forward to decorating our own homes and bringing the family together, no matter how intimate the gathering.
We are an office of five employees with two designers, one design assistant, one office manager, and myself. Business has been busier than ever lately with everyone investing more into the functionality and aesthetic value of their homes.
At present, we are working in a hybrid fashion with some days in the office (masks on) and others at home. The holiday break will bring a much needed respite from our hectic day-to-day routine, and we will all celebrate in different ways—from casual and organic—to fancy and formal. Here are a few snapshots from our own holiday settings to inspire that holiday mood in your own home this year.
TRICIA LUONG
Our Senior Residential Interior Designer, Tricia Luong, recently inherited a delicate ivory and gold china pattern from her husband’s grandmother. It looks fresh and modern on her Thanksgiving table this year with new bamboo placemats and gold coasters from Chilewich found here.
LAUREN PETKUS
Lauren Petkus is our Design Assistant at RRI and she is skilled at the art of layering to create a warm and welcoming entrance this fall. The checkered porch rug coordinates with her front doors, painted the perfect “Satin Black” by BEHR. Layering practical yet stylish coir doormats on top of the area rug adds another level, while the pumpkins on the crate create a bit of height for styling the space with organic elements.
KATIE SULLIVAN
Our Office Manager, Katie Sullivan, has an activity planned for her small gathering of 4 adults and 4 children this Thanksgiving. This wreath from PaperSource is currently sold out online but it’s an easy DIY. Buy card stock in an array of muted fall colors and have the older kids cut out a leaf pattern (you’ll need about 60 leaves). Cut out a cardboard circle from a recycled box about 8” in diameter and 3” wide. Write what you are grateful for this year (even if you have to think HARD) and glue the leaves to the cardboard frame. Attach a pretty ribbon and you’re done! PaperSource also has these adorable “Thankful Turkey Kits” this year which you can use as place cards, found here.
RACHEL REIDER
In my own home I’m gearing up for December already in my living room. We recently moved and I’m having fun pulling all of the details together for my own family of five. My sister, Abbey, moved in during the pandemic to help with the kids’ remote schooling and we look forward to celebrating the holidays together. Yesterday I set up our collection of metallic bottle brush trees and mercury glass on the mantel. We celebrate both Hanukkah and Christmas at our house so I’m always striking the balance between both festivities. I spotted this rainbow-hued wreath at Bloomingdales the other day while I was shopping for clients and it’s on my wish list for this year. You all know how much I love color and a little splash of glam!
KRISTINA RENALDI
Kristina Renaldi is our Senior Hospitality Interior Designer. Every year she wows us with pictures of her beautifully wrapped presents and we just had to share! Her secret is to buy an affordable roll of black kraft paper from Amazon and simple string, then add fresh organic elements on Christmas Eve with eucalyptus, astilbe, and hypernicum berries—all found at your local WholeFoods or right in your own backyard.
We are grateful for our many clients that have designed their homes with us this past year and endured the inevitable ups-and-downs of 2020. Many of our projects have just wrapped up and you can see them first-hand in our residential portfolio section. We wish you all the best this holiday season and know that wonderful new family memories will be made.
