Project Reveal: A Splash of Color

A bold, layered design approach transformed an architecturally forward home into a true ode to color. From custom elements to saturated hues, every detail was thoughtfully curated to celebrate the clients’ bold vision and love of color. A space designed to feel as inspiring as it is livable.

Many years ago, these longtime Reider + Co clients first approached us to help with their family home in the city. Known for their enthusiastic love of color, they gave us the opportunity to embrace bold palettes and patterns many would shy away from. So when this family of 6 informed us that they had purchased a new Victorian-style home in their beloved city neighborhood and sought our design support once again, we couldn’t wait to get started.

Our approach to this design was to spotlight the home’s unique architectural details while celebrating the homeowners’ personal style through vibrant colors and bold, dramatic designs that reflected their adventurous tastes and years of travel, while balancing durability with the functional needs of these repeat clients.

Working closely with Niche Architecture and Sea-Dar Construction, the home underwent extensive renovations to create more functional spaces and a layout that supports the way the family lives. This included extensive millwork throughout, an open kitchen space designed for everyday living, a new bathroom, and the creation and build-out of a pool room, sauna, and cold plunge in an exterior dwelling, bringing a wellness design component to the property.

A Dining Room Wrapped in de Gournay Wallpaper and Jewel-Toned Details

The dining room became one of the home’s most memorable expressions of color and artistry. Wrapped in stunning de Gournay hand-embroidered and beaded wallpaper, the space is further elevated by a gold-leaf ceiling and custom millwork in Flamingo, a saturated pinkish red paint color. Together, these layers and curated furnishings strike a balance between elegance and exuberance — creating a dramatic, detailed backdrop for gathering, entertaining, and celebrating.

A Kitchen That Perfectly Balances Bold Color and Livability

The open-concept kitchen is a perfect example of how bold color and everyday function can work beautifully together. In partnership with Venegas and Company, the space was designed to feel vibrant and highly livable: tons of storage, ease of flow, and custom details, including a geometric backsplash made of marble and wood and bold pendants overhead. We love how perfectly this space supports the rhythm of a busy family while staying true to the home’s bold, color-forward spirit.

A Color-Drenched Library Designed for Work, Reading, and Retreat

Just off the entryway, the library was designed to become a true destination within the home, and the transformation was incredible. Working with Carpenter & MacNeille, the space came to life through dramatic color-washed walls, custom millwork, and a custom desk that creates a striking focal point. Bookshelves lined with marbled wallpaper and finished with backlighting add depth, warmth, and a sense of discovery, making the room perfect for reading, work, and connection.

A Dramatic Primary Suite with Statement Lighting and a Custom Vanity

The primary suite continues the home’s bold, layered story with pattern, color, and sculptural detail. Tracy Glover Studio statement lighting anchors the vaulted ceiling, with deep aubergine millwork that adds just the right amount of drama in the bedroom. The suite flows effortlessly into a spa-like primary bathroom featuring a custom Vanity & Co. vanity and reeded paneling balanced by vibrant jewel-tone tile and luxurious finishes.
