With wanderlust and our favorite hotel experiences in mind, here are some ways we look to continue that feel-good travel vibes in your home.

Tailoring interior design for destination-inspired living

We talk a lot about the sense of place and how we use it in our process to make a home design feel more authentic to its surroundings. It’s an approach that can also be used when looking to create a destination-inspired space. This includes incorporating the elements that connect you to a location into the design and finding the perfect balance between a beloved home and an ideal getaway. Lighter, airy finishes using linen-cotton textiles and other natural fibers are more conducive to a beach house property, clearing the way for those sought-after views, whereas heavier details and rustic wood finish can bring out the unique beauty of a mountain retreat. Another way is to incorporate art and cultural pieces that can be layered against more neutral elements to create interest and conjure up those destination-inspired emotions.

Incorporating destination-inspired color palettes

Color plays a big role in creating that mood, especially when it comes to sparking travel memories. We know that color can be highly personal. So whether you are drawn to neutrals or love bold, deeply saturated hues, luckily, there are plenty of options out there to choose from. When unsure, we often recommend starting with a neutral palette and then building on it with the colors, textures, and design elements that speak to the mood or experience you are trying to create in your home. A coastal design palette should feel casual, light, and airy, reminiscent of your favorite seaside vacation. By incorporating soft hues of blues, greens, and beige tones, we aim to create a more serene vibe that is harmonious with the coastal landscape.

Keeping multi-generational use top of mind

When it comes to the building and design of our multi-generational home projects, there are so many aspects and details to manage. Elevated amenities and outdoor experiences with a focus on functionality are critical to this goal. The outdoor space surrounding the home offers a treasure trove of places for innovative design and opportunity to maximize the home’s footprint. Hot tubs, fire pits, outdoor showers, and comfortable gathering areas with weather-resistant materials are several ideas to consider when creating an invited and well-used extension to the home. And don’t forget functionality and ease. Built-in storage and durable fabrics can go a long way in capturing that relaxed, vacation-mode feeling.
