Four US Destinations Redefining the Art of Living Well

From the Atlantic to the Rockies, countless cities across our country exemplify and help redefine the art of living well. These experiences provide an escape and a refreshing dose of inspiration for our team and work. This month’s journal explores some of our favorite “living well” U.S. destinations, from hidden gems to luxurious havens.

Traveling to new places near and far inspires our work for our residential and hotel design projects. Whether indulging in local cuisine, exploring local hot spots, or immersing ourselves in the culture, each excursion offers a fresh perspective that breathes life into everything we do to help our clients live life exquisitely.

So, if you’re looking for the next great travel destination to fuel your creative spirit, keep reading for our spotlight on four US destinations that redefine the art of living well.

Big Sky, Montana

One of Rachel and her family’s favorite annual ski destinations, Big Sky has quickly ranked itself at the top of the list for family getaways and included in Travel + Leisure’s 50 Best Places to Travel in 2024. Luxury resorts like Montage, “Montana’s best-kept summer secret,” according to Luxury Travel Magazine and The Wilson Hotel, offer sophisticated mountain living across each expansive property. And when eating out, you can head to sought-after dining destinations, like Rainbow Ranch and Olive B’s, which feature delicious American/mountain-inspired cuisine. If you are looking for an excursion, don’t forget to visit Yellowstone’s Hot Springs. Vogue voted it one of the best hot springs in the U.S., where you can rent a luxury chalet and rejuvenate in a 104-degree hot water plunge. Yes, please!

Charleston, South Carolina

Voted best in the country by Travel + Leisure readers for the last 12 years, Charleston, SC, provides the perfect blend of rich historical heritage and modern sophistication. With abundant award-winning restaurants, luxury hotels, and boutiques balanced by its stunning architecture and old-world charm, there’s something for everyone in this charming coastal city. If you find yourself here, be sure to check out Camellia’s, FIG, and Bar 167 for dining options and The Dewberry or The Lourtrel  for a fantastic stay (all of Rachel’s favorites when in the city!) And if you are looking to stretch those legs a bit, head to Kiawah Island for a round of golf or to just take in some breathtaking panoramic shoreline views.

Manhattan, NY

We love heading into Manhattan for design inspiration and meeting with industry partners. Still, we can’t deny that we love the many luxury dining at La Mercerie (where you can also shop for unique design pieces) and Le Coucou and hotels, like The Ned Noman, the Carlyle, and The Mark, options that the city continues to serve up. And, of course, no time spent in the Big Apple would be complete without our visit to some of its inspiring museums and culinary experiences, including MoMA and the original Eataly.

Boston, Massachusetts

Finally, we’d be remiss not to include our home base, Boston, Massachusetts, on this list.  Voted #14 in Travel + Leisure's top 15 U. S. cities in 2024, not only is Boston a historic and very approachable city, but it is also at the top of living well, with upscale dining, including La Padrona and Contessa, lavish hotels like the newly opened Raffles Boston, The Newbury, and the Four Seasons Hotel Boston, shopping on iconic Newbury Street and plenty of art, books and culture to keep you inspired at The Museum of Fine Arts, Isabella Stewart Garnder Museum and Beacon Hill Books & Cafe.
