From the Mountains To The Cape: What We’ve Been Up To Lately

September has been a really good snapshot of life at Reider + Co. We’ve spent plenty of time together in the studio, but we’ve also been out on job sites, in meetings, and moving between residential and hospitality projects at very different stages. That variety is one of the things we love most about the work.

When we look at what’s happening in the studio right now, the projects really couldn’t be more different. We’re moving between boutique hospitality, city living, a suburban renovation, and a new construction project in New Hampshire that’s just beginning to take shape. And with each one, we find ourselves playing a slightly different role.

Sometimes we’re there from day one, helping establish the design direction and thinking through everything from interior architecture and space planning to materials and furnishings. Other times, we’re joining an established architect and builder, working through decisions on site, or focusing on the details that bring everything together. Whether it’s luxury residential design, new construction, a renovation, or a boutique hotel, we’re always thinking about what that particular project needs from us and how we can best contribute to the bigger picture.

Here’s a look at where the work is taking us right now, and the different roles we’re playing along the way:

Queen Anne, Chatham, MA

In Chatham, we’re moving forward with Queen Anne, our 39-room boutique hotel project spanning three buildings. Our role has been to establish a cohesive design direction for the property, from the guest rooms and shared spaces to the outdoor experience, while drawing inspiration from the surrounding salt marshes and natural landscape. We’ve just wrapped up client presentations and are excited to move into the next phase, working alongside the project team to bring that vision to life.

Modern Waterfront Condo Living, Boston, MA

Back in Boston, working with FBN Construction, this urban project has us thinking in a completely different way. Our clients are moving from the suburbs to the Seaport, so the focus here is on making a smaller footprint work really well without sacrificing comfort or personality. We’ve been looking closely at custom millwork, storage, and how each space connects to the next so the condo feels thoughtful, functional, and very much like home. It’s a completely different challenge from a hotel project, and it calls for a different kind of thinking from our team.

Connected Family-Forward Living, Needham, MA

In Needham, we’re back working with past clients on a renovation and expansion designed around the way their family lives now. The project includes new spaces for gathering, entertaining, guests, and everyday life, along with a new pool and pool house. There’s something really special about returning to a home and a family we already know. We understand how they live, what they value, and what worked the first time around, so we can build on that history while helping the house evolve with them. We’re excited to collaborate for the first time with architect Slocum Hall Design Group and Hawthorn Builders, two new partners for Reider + Co.

And further north…

As we wrap up work on Four Seasons Mountain Retreat in Gilford, another project in the area is just beginning to take shape. This time, our involvement started a little differently.  An out-of-town client brought us in first, which is always exciting, and we'll be working closely with them to not only find the land but also assemble the team, including the architect, builder, and other partners who will be involved once the location is finalized. We love being involved at this unique stage, when luxury residential design, new construction, interior architecture, landscape, and the way our clients want to live can all be considered together from the start. It also gives us the opportunity to build a collaborative team around the project's needs before the plans are fully formed.  We’re excited to see where this one takes us and share along the way!
